Whether greenspace affects lung function is unclear. We explored associations between the level of greenness or presence urban green space near home with measures taken repeatedly during childhood and adolescence in five European birth cohorts. Lung was measured by spirometry six 22 years (2-3 times), 9,206 participants from BAMSE (Sweden), GINI/LISA South North (Germany), PIAMA (The Netherlands) INMA (Spain) contributed at least one measurement. The mean Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) a 300 m buffer within (yes/no) were estimated address time each Cohort-specific assessed using adjusted linear mixed models combined random-effects meta-analysis. Residential not associated forced expiratory volume second (FEV1), vital capacity (FVC) FEV1/FVC meta-analysis (2.3 ml [-3.2, 7.9], 6.2 [-3.4, 15.7] -0.1 [-0.3, 0.1] per 0.1 increase NDVI, respectively), nor having nearby (-8.6 [-22.3, 5.0], -7.6 [-24.7, 9.4] 0.0 [-0.4, 0.3], respectively). Heterogeneity low to moderate (I2 = 0 -39 %). Asthma, atopy, air pollution, sex, socioeconomic status urbanization did modify null associations. Using repeated data large independent cohorts, we find vegetation levels around an adolescence.
