Abstract
Healthy
aging
is
associated
with
a
heterogeneous
decline
across
cognitive
functions,
typically
observed
between
language
comprehension
and
production
(LP).
Examining
resting‐state
fMRI
neuropsychological
data
from
628
healthy
adults
(age
18–88)
the
CamCAN
cohort,
we
performed
state‐of‐the‐art
graph
theoretical
analysis
to
uncover
neural
mechanisms
underlying
this
variability.
At
level,
our
findings
suggest
that
LP
not
an
isolated
function
but
modulated
throughout
lifespan
by
extent
of
inter‐cognitive
synergy
semantic
domain‐general
processes.

fronto‐parietal
(FPN)
integration

brain
compensate
effects
dedifferentiation

minimal
cost,
efficiently

An
individual's
risk
of
substance
use
disorder
(SUD)
is
shaped
by
a
complex
interplay
potent
biosocial
factors.
Current
neurodevelopmental
models
posit
vulnerability
to
SUD
in
youth
due
an
overreactive
reward
system
and
reduced
inhibitory
control.
Having
family
history
particularly
strong
factor,
yet
few
studies
have
explored
its
impact
on
brain
function
structure
prior
exposure.
Herein,
we
utilized
network
control
theory
approach
quantify
sex-specific
differences
activity
dynamics
with
without
SUD,
drawn
from
large
cohort
substance-naïve
the
Adolescent
Brain
Cognitive
Development
Study.
We
summarize
calculating
transition
energy,
which
probes
ease
whole
brain,
region
or
drives
towards
specific
spatial
pattern
activation
(i.e.,
state).
Our
findings
reveal
that
associated
alterations
brain's
wherein:
i)
independent
sex,
certain
regions'
energies
are
higher
those
ii)
there
exist
groups
at
multiple
levels
energy
(global,
network,
regional).
Family
history-by-sex
effects
energetic
demand
increased
females
decreased
males
compared
their
same-sex
counterparts
no
history.
Specifically,
localize
these
demands
default
mode
lower
attention
networks
SUD.
These
results
suggest

increase
saliency
