Abstract Ion homeostasis is a crucial process in plants that closely linked to the efficiency of nutrient uptake, stress tolerance and overall plant growth development. Nevertheless, our understanding fundamental processes ion still incomplete highly fragmented. Especially at mechanistic level, we are dissecting physiological systems analyze different parts isolation. However, modeling approaches have shown it not individual transporters but rather transporter networks (homeostats) control membrane transport associated homeostatic cells. To facilitate access such theoretical approaches, potassium homeostat explained here detail serve as blueprint for other homeostats. Based on few, elementary knowledge about thermodynamics processes, possible draw conclusions properties physiology network.
