Abstract Environmental influences on traits and associated transgenerational epigenetic inheritance have widespread implications, but remain controversial underlying mechanisms poorly understood. We introduce long-term environmental induction experiments alternative diets in Pristionchus pacificus , a nematode exhibiting mouth-form plasticity including predation, by propagating 110 isogenic lines for 101 generations with food-reversal experiments. found dietary subsequent memory of the predatory morph identified role ubiquitin ligase EBAX-1/ZSWIM8 this process. Ppa-ebax-1 mutants no Ppa- EBAX-1 destabilizes clustered microRNA family miR-2235a/miR-35. Deletions cluster 44 identical miR-2235a copies resulted precocious extended morph. These findings indicate that miRNAs resulting memory, suggesting target-directed miRNA degradation.

Abstract Parental health strongly influences the development of embryos, and can ultimately influence behavior post-birth. When exposed to pathogenic Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA14), C. elegans produces a robust immune response, as well learned avoid PA14 in future. This avoidance be inherited by F1 generation. Abstract After examining the data and methods presented in Gainey, et al., bioRxiv , 2024 1 we conclude that authors did not use an experimental paradigm would have allowed them to replicate our results on transgenerational epigenetic inheritance (TEI) of learned avoidance regularly observe 2–5 .
