Abstract The characterization of genes and biological functions underlying functional diversification the formation species is a major goal evolutionary biology. In this study, we investigated fast radiation Microtus voles, one most speciose group mammals, which shows strong genetic divergence despite few readily observable morphological differences. We produced an annotated reference genome for common vole, arvalis, resequenced genomes 10 different lineages spanning speciation continuum.
