This review focuses on phenomena such as temporal reflection, total internal and waveguiding from ultrashort solitons forming inside a nonlinear dispersive medium an optical fiber. The case of wider solitons, moving at constant speed the fiber, is discussed first to introduce basic concepts. In short phenomenon intrapulse Raman scattering shifts their spectrum toward longer wavelengths decelerates them they propagate through These features lead several novel effects focusing by single variable-speed soliton. Recent experimental results are also in this context.

We show that a spatiotemporal Bragg grating can be created inside nonlinear dispersive medium (such as silica fibers) by launching periodic train of pump pulses travel fundamental solitons. develop theoretical model and use it to find the band structure such gratings. study interaction probe pulse with grating, both within outside momentum gaps. also photonic analog Anderson localization is possible when disorder introduced into grating.

This chapter addresses the effects of higher-order Raman scattering on modulational instability in optical fibers with pure-quartic dispersion. Low- and high-input power regimes are affected by self-frequency shift (SFS) and, due to presence quintic nonlinearity quartic dispersion, this leads extended zones gain spectrum. Here, we demonstrate via numerical simulations that our biharmonic nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation exhibits ultrashort pulse trains, including rogue wave (RW)-like patterns, as well trains Akhmediev breathers (ABs). The can also lead a tunable strong Raman-induced frequency shift, allowing energy transfer between modes during signal propagation. work paves way for potential experimental characterization non-Kerr nonlinearities media.

We have studied, through a series of experiments and numerical simulations, how temporal reflection from an intense pump pulse inside photonic crystal fiber is affected by parameters the used to form moving high-index boundary. femtosecond pulses, which slow down as their spectrum red-shifts because intrapulse Raman scattering. Temporal probe pulses occurs such decelerating pulses. changed width chirp our with 4f shaper capable providing both spectral filtering frequency chirping. found that refection exhibited novel features, knowledge, when were made wider or chirped. Spatiotemporal modulation offers a variety of opportunities for light manipulations. In this paper, we propose way toward arbitrary transformation pulses sequentially propagating within one waveguide in space via temporal coupling. The coupling operation is achieved by spatiotemporally modulating the refractive index spatial with traveling wave through segmented electrodes. We derive coupled-mode equations and discuss how systematic parameters affect coefficients. further demonstrated Mach-Zehnder interferometer universal multiport interferometer, which enables unitary pulses. showcase approach transforming among coupled waveguides, requires only under spatiotemporal modulation, hence provide flexible, compact, highly compatible method optical signal processing time domain.
