Purpose The purpose of this study is to explore the ways in which work practices promote work-life balance when family time available (as a spillover effect from personal life) and how differently they affect men women. Design/methodology/approach A quantitative longitudinal approach taken based on data large database made up 71,758 workers 36 European countries, collected 2021 by Working Conditions Survey. After preliminary analysis (including exploratory confirmatory factorial analysis), partial least square method was used test hypothesis conceptual model. Findings results reveal that some (autonomy confidence at work) positively balance. for domestic care affects balance, more relevant women than men. Practical implications These are important organizations wish not only family-friendly but also above all gender-friendly practices. Originality/value Based sample workers, makes an contribution filling gap understanding importance mechanisms outside organizational context promoting through practices, thus extending notion effects while considering gender differences.
