Abstract This article reviews the literature on student well-being (burnout and engagement) their relationships with study demands resources, behaviors (proactive self-undermining behaviors), outcomes in higher education. Building research that used Job Demands–Resources Study models to investigate well-being, we develop (SD–R) theory delineate various processes, mechanisms, involved burnout engagement. resources have unique combined effects education students’ well-being. In addition, students can influence own study-related by either proactively optimizing or displaying adversely affect environment. We discuss several avenues for future research, including (a) rigorous tests of SD–R propositions; (b) trait versus state theory; (c) impact climate lecturer influence; (d) an expanded theory.
