Abstract
Given
the
stressor
essence
of
illegitimate
tasks,
we
explored
their
potential
bright
side
and
mechanisms
action
that
lead
to
differential
behavioural
consequences.
Based
on
Transactional
Theory
Stress
(TTS)
Self‐Determination
(SDT),
hypothesized
as
a
common
in
workplace,
could
trigger
appraisal
results
employees,
leading
distinct
choices.
Additionally,
different
work
motivations
moderated
employees'
tasks.
Through
two‐wave
time‐lagged
investigation
with
317
Chinese
found
when
employees
were
assigned
they
would
either
generate
challenge
appraisal,
positive
indirect
effect
voice
behaviour,
or
hindrance
silence
behaviour.
Furthermore,
autonomous
motivation
relationship
between
tasks
while
controlled
demonstrated
substitution
influencing
appraisal.
Theoretical
practical
implications

discussed.
