Purpose Motivated by the constant daily emerging social challenges worldwide, this special issue analyzes how entrepreneurship becomes a mechanism for change under different institutional settings. A brief reference to content of each articles included in is presented. Design/methodology/approach Institutional theory at macro, meso and individual levels utilized further comprehend inherent complexities involved entrepreneurship–society nexus. literature analysis offered research questions that framed current issue. Findings By exploring extant collected issue, we find social, sustainable, immigrant ethnic entrepreneurship, among others, emerge as response exclusion market failures. However, also observe other forms such opportunity-driven, self-employment, senior, etc. transcend economic purposes pursue societal outcomes. Social implications Our results serve inform scholars, policymakers practitioners about importance integrating coordinating actors elements national, regional, university community ecosystems guarantee entrepreneurial activities bring inclusion solutions natural mission action. Originality/value paper offers insights into bridge society. This stems from catalyst personal realization, industrial development, growth inclusion.

ABSTRACT No Latin American country is as associated with violence in the global imagination Colombia. Although entrepreneurs are widely thought of as "rule-breakers," there has been little academic research into the role rule-breaking serves in entrepreneurial context and what drives to break rules. In this study, we explored a potential cognitive cause rule-breaking: constructive rule beliefs (CRB). CRB is characterized by belief that rules imperfect should guide rather than dictate behavior. Across two experimental studies, causal on behavior samples professionals. The design involved scenarios which participants made series decisions. results showed manipulating causally impacts goal-directed rule-breaking, suggesting may stem from morally evolved beliefs, not necessarily moral corruption.
