Abstract Volumetric analysis methods continue to enjoy great popularity in the of task-related functional MRI (fMRI) data. Among these methods, software package FSL (FMRIB, Oxford, UK) is omnipresent throughout field. However, it remains unknown what advantages might be gained by integrating with alternative preprocessing tools. Here we developed One-step General Registration and Extraction (OGRE) pipeline apply FreeSurfer brain extraction for simultaneous registration motion correction (“one-step resampling”), volumetric fMRI We compared three approaches (OGRE, FSL, fMRIPrep) a dataset wherein adult human volunteers (N=39) performed precision drawing task during scanning. The produced grossly similar results, but OGRE’s led lower inter-individual variability across greater detected activation primary motor cortex contralateral movement. This demonstrates that tools one-step resampling can improve FSL’s OGRE provides an off-the-shelf method FreeSurfer-based
