A simple single-polarization heterodyne optical network unit (ONU) receiver with Alamouti-coding based polarization diversity at the line terminal (OLT) side is a promising solution for passive networks (PON) beyond 50 Gbps. The special equalizer required data recovery of such system has been demonstrated 200 Gbps PON downstream using offline processing serial data. As high-speed optical access networks continue to evolve, reducing the computational complexity at network unit (ONU) side remains a significant challenge in coherent passive (PON). This paper presents pre-equalization scheme that integrates digital pre-distortion (DPD) and pre-emphasis techniques 200 Gb/s PON. The focus is on three modulation formats: 50 Gbaud polarization multiplexing-quadrature phase shift keying (PM-QPSK), Alamouti-coded multiplexing-16 quadrature amplitude (PM-16QAM), 25 PM-16QAM, using intradyne or heterodyne detection schemes. Through comprehensive numerical simulations experimental evaluations, we demonstrate improvements receiver sensitivity power budget When number of filtering taps small, proposed achieves enhancements 3 dB for PM-QPSK, 7 2.1 PM-16QAM downlink. These findings highlight potential enhancing performance next-generation PON with low ONU side.

In this paper, we experimentally investigate the laser phase noise tolerance for a 100 Gb/s/ λ coherent passive optical network (PON) with simplified units (ONUs) transceivers when distributed feedback (DFB) is used as local oscillator (LO). proposed scheme, digitally subcarrier-multiplexed (DSCM) signals are generated in transmitter at line terminal (OLT) side based on Alamouti encoding two polarizations and received by single-polarization heterodyne receiver ONU side. The experimental results show that power budget can achieve 34.2 dB 33.9 after 25 km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) link external cavity (ECL) DFB lasers LOs Polarization carrier tracking schemes DSCM systems frequency domain pilot tones were digital signal process (DSP). At same time, offset estimation compensation algorithms conducted using residual carriers. By choosing an appropriate width low-pass filter, optimal performance be achieved. pre-equalization operation OLT also verified to provide better flatter performances.

For the upstream passive optical network (PON), we design and evaluate an intensity modulation quaternary pulse amplitude (PAM-4) with four coherent receivers in terms of Homodyne balanced detection polarization multiplexing. The obtained simulation results validate 100Gbps PAM-PON scheme successful transmission over C-band standard single mode fiber.
