Various industries see digital transformation (DT) as the pillar to coping with intensified competition, energy crises, and climate change. As a critical sector for DT, construction industry’s project-oriented paradigm immature industrialized production method limit research on emerging technology ignore theoretical mechanism. Through lens of system adaptability, this study proposes multifaceted model examine DT effectiveness unveil driving (1) An extensive literature review, action research, nominal group technique identified 21 determinants, which were categorized into technological–organizational–environmental (TOE) framework analyze determinants from multiple dimensions. (2) This utilizes data 272 respondents collected through field survey designed measure relationships among variables. (3) Structural equation modeling (SEM) Analysis Moment Structures (AMOSs) has been used hypotheses impact various dimensions their influence pathways. The results indicate that in technological, organizational, environmental positively affect DT’s success industry. technological dimension is strongest, organizational weakest. findings offer valuable recommendations insights stakeholders industry, highlighting importance considering these three enhance overall when industry upgrading. Additionally, uses TOE reveal It combines SEM explore pathways effects, offering key body knowledge.

Digital transformation is rapidly emerging as a pivotal topic in business and academic discourse. Prior research has emphasized the profound impact of digital on firm innovation. However, precise influence different forms innovation remains unclear. Meanwhile, role change structures largely been overlooked. This study investigates how influences both exploitative exploratory through decentralization formal informal structures. Using dataset 26,014 patent applications from 156 listed companies core industries China's economy, this demonstrates prominent promoting effect broadens firm's information channels facilitates organizational agility by accelerating decision-making, which turn promotes It also enhances absorptive capacity empowers it to identify meet new consumer demands, fostering Furthermore, reveals that challenges traditional power decisions, enabling become more decentralized, knowledge flows managerial incentives and, thus, positively affects These findings provide deeper understanding management.

Methods: The empirical analysis uses data Nikkei Index from 2010 through 2023. Out total, excluding insurance sectors as well aberrant statuses trading, 225 resulted 14,567 observations. regression models controlled for a number different factors, such enterprise size, profitability, industry type firm. Results: evidence based pooled sample implies that enhanced significantly boosts capability risktaking. Specifically, comparison estimated coefficients obtained across enterprises their counterparts shows large difference magnitude latter. increasing adoption technologies heightens propensity those to invest high-risk investments, hence improving value at large. Conclusions: contributes an understanding affects behavior terms risk-taking. It underlines need develop initiatives contribute efficiency stability. findings imply policymakers business leaders should encourage strategies transformation, especially enterprises, achieve economic growth increased ability.

Technology Analysis and Strategic Management, Journal Year: 2025, Volume and Issue: unknown, P. 1 - 17

Published: Feb. 17, 2025

Recent research underscores the significant impact of digital transformation on innovation and organisational design. However, specific effect internal structures within firms remains to be determined. This gap limits our understanding whether how can redistribute decision-making power. To address this, we investigate relationship between formal informal structures. Analyzing a dataset 26,014 patent applications from 156 listed companies in China's core economy industries, study finds that reduces centralisation structures, with R&D intensity positively moderating this relationship. Additionally, reveals external scientific knowledge amplifies negative centralization structure, while practical mitigates structure. These findings contribute new theoretical insights management.
