Abstract Nondestructive yolk color detection holds significant potential in the egg and poultry industries due to its critical role shaping consumer preferences, nutritional perceptions, marketability. A consistent may support product branding, quality assurance, adherence market-specific standards. Thus, this research study aimed develop an nondestructive approach using hyperspectral imaging (HSI) combined with partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) separate orange yolk-colored eggs from yellow eggs. camera visible range of 400 nm 1000 was used for spectral information total 146 white eggshell infertile were collected farm University Illinois at Urbana-Champaign investigation. The dataset divided into 70% training 30% testing purposes. classification model developed PLS-DA various preprocessing techniques. An accuracy 100% on set achieved standard normal variate (SNV), first derivative (FD) second (SD) data. key 9 variables (wavelengths) found 520–680 nm, which indicated variation types amount carotenoid pigments deposited yolks, are influenced by hen feed metabolic efficiency. These findings suggested that HSI multivariate could be grade chicken based their internal future industry.

Determining egg freshness is critical for ensuring food safety and security as such, different methods have been evaluated implemented to accurately measure predict it. In this study, a portable near-infrared (NIR) instrument combined with chemometrics was used monitor the storage time of eggs under two conditions—room temperature (RT) cold (CT) storage—from production systems: cage free-range. A total 700 samples were analyzed, using principal component analysis (PCA) partial least squares (PLS) regression analyze NIR spectra. The PCA score plot did not show any clear separation between from systems; however, some grouped according conditions. cross-validation statistics predicting follows: RT eggs, coefficient determination in cross validation (R2CV) 0.67, standard error (SECV) 7.64 days residual predictive deviation (RPD) 1.8; CT R2CV 0.84, SECV 5.38 RPD 3.2; free-range 0.83, 5.52 0.82, 5.61 days, 3.0. This study demonstrated that spectroscopy can non-destructively intact samples. Even though results present are promising, further research still needed extend these other systems, well explore potential technique quality parameters associated freshness.
