Therapeutic drug monitoring in India: Why it matters and how to make it happen?

Abstract Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM), which customizes medication doses according to observed plasma concentrations, is an essential technique for pharmacotherapy optimization. This method reduces side effects, improves treatment efficacy, and takes into account the patient population-specific variations in pharmacokinetics pharmacodynamics (PKs/PDs). TDM ensures that PK/PD goals are quickly reached maintained critical care precision medicine. Its uses have grown include biomarker-guided cancer treatments, tailored immunosuppression transplantation, antimicrobial stewardship. The application of still underutilized India despite country’s expanding pharmaceutical research development scene. In past, services were first offered by organizations such as King Edward Memorial Hospital Mumbai late 1980s.
