Abstract Intact native forests under negligible large-scale human pressures (i.e. high-integrity forests) are critical for biodiversity conservation. Abstract Due to the various negative environmental consequences of current land-use, and land’s importance for climate mitigation, conservation food security, there is a growing urgent interest in reforming land-use many countries. Policy objectives tree planting sequester carbon creation protected areas protect biodiversity require land reallocation. This leads inevitable trade-offs between land-uses, requiring careful place-based policy design. Here, we evaluate three rural land: agricultural/forestry production, sequestration biodiversity, by calculating metrics these on 500mx500m grid covering Great Britain (GB). We use multi-objective optimisation identify allocations that satisfy different weightings given total conversation. Our results show GB far from optimal any combination objectives. also find it possible significantly improve even with relatively small proportion being converted other uses, without compromising overall agricultural provided conversions are located carefully.
