Abstract Purpose To compare clinical visual field outputs in glaucoma and healthy patients returned by the Humphrey Field Analyzer (HFA) virtual reality (Virtual Field, VF) perimetry. Methods One eye of 54 41 subjects was prospectively tested (three times each random order) using HFA VF perimeters (24‐2 test grids). We extracted compared global indices (mean deviation [MD] pattern standard [PSD]), pointwise sensitivity (and calculated ‘equivalent’ after accounting for differences background luminance) defects. Bland–Altman difference [ M diff ] 95% limits agreement [LoA]) intraclass correlation analyses were performed. Results The shorter (by 76 s) had lower fixation losses 0.08) false‐positive rate 0.01) to (all p < 0.0001). Intraclass correlations 0.86, 0.82 0.47 MD, PSD between devices, respectively. Test–retest variability higher ( 0.3 dB, LoA −7.6 8.2 dB) −0.3 −6.4 5.9 dB), indicating greater test–retest variability. When device's underlying normative database, detected, on average, 7 more defects (at 0.05 level) out 52 locations this iteration cohort. Conclusions Virtual returns results that are correlated with HFA, but sensitivities variable. Differences defect detection its current database raise questions about widespread adoption lieu HFA.

We sought to determine the impact of seeding point errors (SPEs) as a source low test reliability in perimetry and develop strategy mitigate this error early test.Cross-sectional study.Visual field results from 1 eye 364 patients (77 normal eyes, 178 glaucoma suspect 109 eyes) were used models for identifying SPE. Two cohorts (326 undertaking Swedish interactive thresholding algorithm [SITA]-Faster 327 eyes SITA-Standard) prospectively evaluate SPEs. Global visual metrics compared among reliable unreliable results. Regression identify factors distinguishing SPEs non-SPEs. Models evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. In cohorts, SITA-Faster produced higher rate (30%-49.7%) with SITA-Standard (10.8%-16.6%). contributed most (57.5%-64.9%) gaze tracker deviations accounting (40%-77.8%). In SITA-Faster, had worse global indices more clusters sensitivity reduction than Our best model (using 9 locations) can an area under ROC curve 0.89.SPEs contribute large proportion results, particularly when SITA-Faster. propose useful that then guide retesting both SITA algorithms. provide simplified framework perimetrist improve overall fidelity result.

Glaucoma is one of the leading causes irreversible blindness in world. It characterized by progressive loss retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), mainly through process apoptosis. patients often come to clinical attention when visual function has been already established; therefore, early recognition RGC apoptosis inordinately important disease prevention. The novel technology called Detection Apoptosing Retinal Cells (DARC) allows real-time vivo quantification apoptosing use a fluorescent biomarker and confocal scanning ophthalmoscope. A recent Phase I trial evaluated safety DARC its ability detect glaucoma healthy volunteers. Results suggest that may have potential detection glaucoma, which could help alleviate medical, social, economic burden associated with this blinding condition.

Purpose: Current clinical perimetric test paradigms present stimuli randomly to various locations across the visual field (VF), inherently introducing spatial uncertainty, which reduces contrast sensitivity. In study, we determined extent uncertainty affects sensitivity in glaucoma patients by minimizing through attentional cueing. Methods: Six with open-angle and six healthy subjects underwent laboratory-based psychophysical testing measure at preselected two eccentricities (9.5° 17.5°) stimulus sizes (Goldmann III V) under different cueing conditions: 1, 2, 4, or 8 points verbally cued. Method of Constant Stimuli a single-interval forced-choice procedure were used generate frequency seeing (FOS) curves without VF defects. Results: At defects, minimizes improves all conditions. The effect was maximal when one point cued, rapidly diminished more cued (no change baseline cued). slope FOS curve steepened reduced uncertainty. Locations normal glaucomatous eyes had similar performance that subjects. There systematic increase depth loss. Conclusions: Sensitivity measurements are negatively affected increases greater Minimizing can improve deficit. Translational Relevance: techniques introduce may therefore underestimate regions
