Abstract A sound understanding of the community changes over time and its driving forces is at centre biodiversity conservation ecology research. In this study, we examined: (i) relative roles turnover nestedness components to trait‐ taxonomy‐based temporal beta diversity riverine diatoms; (ii) whether trait‐based provides complementary information diversity; (iii) hydrology (e.g. discharge, antecedent precipitation index), metal ions Mg 2+ , Si ) nutrients nitrogen, orthophosphate) both facets their (i.e. total diversity, nestedness); (iv) inclusion environment regimes increase explained variations. 338 daily samples diatom communities were collected. We employed Mantel tests evaluate complementarities between diversity. Using distance‐based redundancy analysis (db‐RDA) variation partitioning, investigated hydrology, each facet components. Abstract Monitoring the rapid and extensive changes in plant species distributions occurring worldwide requires large-scale, continuous repeated biodiversity assessments. Imaging spectrometers are at core of novel spaceborne sensor fleets designed for this task, but degree to which they can capture composition diversity across ecosystems has yet be determined. Here we use imaging spectroscopy vegetation data collected by National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON) show that landscape level, spectral beta-diversity—calculated directly from images—captures all major biomes United States ranging arctic tundra tropical forests. Abstract Animal pollinators are vital for the reproduction of ~90% flowering plants. However, many these pollinating species experiencing declines globally, making effective pollinator monitoring methods more important than ever before. Pollinators can leave DNA on flowers they visit, and metabarcoding environmental (eDNA) traces provides an opportunity to detect presence flower visitors. Our study, collecting from seven plant with diverse floral morphologies, eDNA analysis, illustrated value this novel survey tool. using three assays, including one developed in study target common bush birds, recorded animal visiting visual surveys conducted concurrently, bees, other species. While human activities are known to elicit rapid turnover in species composition through time, the properties of that increase or decrease their spatial occupancy underlying this less clear. Here, we used an extensive dataset 238 metacommunity time series multiple taxa spread across globe evaluate whether more widespread (large-ranged species) differed how they changed site over 10-90 years metacommunities were monitored relative narrowly distributed (small-ranged species). We found on average, large-ranged tended whereas small-ranged decrease. These relationships stronger marine than terrestrial and freshwater realms.
