Abstract Lately, there has been an emphasis on the importance of studying inter-individual variation in animal behaviour and cognition understanding its underlying mechanisms. What was once considered mere noise around population mean can be explained by individual characteristics such as brain morphology functionality. However, logistical limitations faced when brain, especially for research involving wild animals, dealing with small sample sizes time-consuming methods. Here, we combined efficient accurate method using X-ray micro-tomography deep-learning (DL) segmentation to estimate volume six main areas lizards, Podarcis bocagei : olfactory bulbs, telencephalon, diencephalon, midbrain, cerebellum stem. Through quantitative comparison, show that a sufficient neural network trained few five data sets. From this, applied algorithm obtain regions from 29 brains . We provide detailed protocol our methods, including preparation, tomography, 3D volumetric segmentation. Our work is open-access freely available, potential benefit researchers various fields, physiology, biomedical studies, computer sciences.
