We report on field observations of males biting females as part mating attempts in the northern map turtle (Graptemys geographica), a species which are much larger than males. The function is not clear, but we surmise, based our previous work same population, that may be coercive strategy. Based comparative analyses behaviors, this potentially strategy unexpected given direction sexual size dimorphism turtles.
