Abstract Figure Flavonoids are natural secondary compounds of plants with a basic composition derived from polyphenols that can produce plethora different neurochemical effects, some which relevant to anxiety disorders. As such, many flavonoids have been evaluated in behavioral screens preclinical research on anxiolytics. Given the molecular subclasses flavonoids, targets proposed for these compounds, and priorities arise research, we sought map potential as anxiolytics by bibliometric analysis meta-analysis animal tests using compounds. Bibliometric suggest field is highly concentrated few groups mostly located Global South, suggesting need improve international collaborations. The themes emerged driven exploratory steps pharmacological including finding anxioselective effects looking dose-response patterns; this suggests field, whole, could benefit more mechanistic confirmatory research. showed strong evidence an anxiolytic-like effect tests, assays made rats, mice, zebrafish (SMD = -1.4398, 95%CI[-1.7319, - 1.1477]). Subgroup suggested present acute treatment -1.14, 95%CI[-1.36, -0.93]), but not after chronic -1.96, 95%CI[-4.93; 1.01]). For all molecule included study, only isoflavones, glycoside derivatives, flavanolignans did show effect, although low number studies low. We finish set recommendations anxiolytic flavonoids.
