Purpose of review Social wellbeing is a core component heath. However, people with chronic respiratory disease report unmet social needs, particularly in relation to stigma, isolation, and loneliness. This considers recent advances understanding these concepts within the context disease. Recent findings A growing body qualitative work illustrates detrimental impacts stigma disease, contributing towards poorer psychological health self-management, reduced engagement professional support. Stigma, alongside physical limitations stemming from symptoms, can also contribute isolation loneliness are associated mental quality life, declines function, some cases, increased hospital admissions. Although close or cohabiting relationships ameliorate challenges, impact informal carers Summary Increasing evidence direct indirect influences dimensions on outcomes for living there lived experiences less understood about complexities optimal interventions address challenges.

Abstract It is reported that pulmonary fibrosis has become one of the major long-term complications COVID-19, even in asymptomatic individuals. Currently, despite best efforts global medical community, there are no treatments for COVID-induced fibrosis. Recently, inhalable nanocarriers have received more attention due to their ability improve solubility insoluble drugs, penetrate biological barriers lungs and target fibrotic tissues lungs. The inhalation route many advantages as a non-invasive method administration local delivery anti-fibrosis agents like direct lesion from respiratory system, high efficiency, low systemic toxicity, therapeutic dose stable dosage forms. In addition, lung biometabolic enzyme activity hepatic first-pass effect, so drug rapidly absorbed after administration, which can significantly bioavailability drug. This paper summary pathogenesis current treatment reviews various systems fibrosis, including lipid-based nanocarriers, nanovesicles, polymeric protein nanosuspensions, nanoparticles, gold nanoparticles hydrogel, provides theoretical basis finding new strategies clinical rational use.

This study examined impact pandemic on daily life, psychological wellbeing access healthcare identified approaches undertaken remain safe. Methods Four specialist clinics in tertiary centres Australia (Victoria: two sites; New South Wales: one site; Western Australia: site) recruited patients ILD during an 8-week period from March 2021. Semi-structured telephone interviews conducted transcripts analysed using principles grounded theory. Results Ninety participants interviewed between April December Participants predominantly female, former smokers average age 66 years. IPF connective tissue-ILD being most common subtypes. Five main themes identified: vulnerability reduced social interaction isolation, services support, staying active, emotional impact. Self-management strategies included active both physically mentally. Discussion was key managing pandemic. ABSTRACT Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is a lethal disease caused by inordinate repair of damaged lungs, for which limited strategies are available. Polyphyllin VI (PPVI), extracted and isolated from Paris polyphylla Smith var. chinensis (Franch.) Hara, has been regarded as an important traditional Chinese herbal medicine the treatment respiratory system diseases. This study evaluated effects PPVI on PF its underlying mechanism. Experimental procedure For evaluating anti‐PF effect PPVI, we established in vivo mouse model via intratracheal infusion bleomycin (BLM) mice vitro induced TGF‐β1 NIH/3T3, HPF A549, respectively. Subsequently, mechanism was further explored using RNA sequencing (RNA‐Seq). The results demonstrated that significantly inhibited inflammation, oxidative damage, epithelial‐mesenchymal transition. Furthermore, indicated ameliorated modulating inflammation stress responses. dual specificity phosphatase 6 (DUSP6), shared most significant differentially expressed gene associated with response after treatment. Mechanistically, silencing DUSP6 can eliminate suppressive impact activation fibroblast phosphorylation ERK AKT. Summarily, our findings revealed potential mitigating upregulating highlighted regulatory function pathogenesis PF.

Whilst 56% rated their overall 2020 as same months prior, 38% indicated worsening attributed reduced physical activity fear contracting virus. Access professionals 'good' 61%, 'fair-to-poor' for 37% due missed respiratory assessments, telehealth (mainly telephone) being perceived less effective. 89% contact physicians, 68% general practitioners, predominantly via telephone, few video consultations. High satisfaction care reported 78%, lower delays disruption usual services such rehabilitation, dissatisfaction telehealth.People generally satisfied 2020, however access challenging those experiencing deterioration health. Objective To explore eating and drinking experiences of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), the impact any changes associated their diagnosis coping mechanisms developed by patients. Setting Pulmonary support groups around UK regional Interstitial Lung Diseases Clinic, Newcastle upon Tyne. Participants 15 IPF (9 men, 6 women), median age 71 years, range (54–92) were interviewed. Inclusion criteria included competent adults (over 18 years) a secure as defined international consensus guidelines. Patients required to have sufficient English language competence consent participate in an interview. Exclusion history other lung diseases, pre-existing swallowing problem causes that may be dysphagia individuals significant communication or memory difficulties render them unable Design A qualitative study based on semistructured interviews used purpose sampling conducted between February 2021 November 2021. Interviews via video videoconferencing call platform telephone call, transcribed data coded analysed using reflexive thematic analysis.
