The dynamic nature of intrinsic (e.g., reproductive system, hybridization) and extrinsic factors physical barriers to gene flow) across space time generate complex biological processes that influence contemporary patterns genetic diversity, highlighting the need for interdisciplinary studies. Using widespread, mixed-mating annual Triodanis perfoliata, previous work demonstrated important roles breeding isolation by distance, resistance in shaping population diversity. Here we significantly build on this first step incorporating paleoclimatic data, historical admixture, estimating species divergence times 18 populations T. perfoliata spanning contiguous US. This current study provides novel insights into driving intraspecific diversification were not explained using only climate models. Specifically, these new analyses highlight early Holocene (11.7 - 8.326 ka) Marine Isotope Stage M2 (ca. 3.3 Ma), as periods explaining latter which appears be an period perfoliata. In addition, explored factors, via admixture explain connectivity. inclusion analysis provided clarity through evidence flow between would have experienced suitable habitat connectivity past climates. Our illustrates importance historic, well phylogeographic studies a comprehensive understanding patterns.
