In China, as elsewhere, freshwater fishes are facing considerable threats due to climate change and anthropogenic activities, including habitat modification, water pollution, over-fishing, non-native fish introductions (Best, 2019; Feio et al., 2023). As a result, the taxonomic, genetic, functional diversities of in China have been negatively impacted. China harbors a high species diversity of freshwater fishes not shared with any its neighboring nations. Freshwater fish in the country has been under severe threat from human activities over past decades, thus conservation and ecosystems is urgently needed. To accumulate baseline data for guiding protection actions, third red list assessment Chinese was carried out. Among assessed, there are 355 at-risk (22.3% total), including 69 ranked as Critically Endangered, 97 189 Vulnerable. Two classified Extinct one Regionally Extinct. China's level seems to be lower than known average found IUCN's global fishes, but this an artifact rate Data Deficient. Conservation presently facing grim situation China. Imperilment primarily attributed habitat loss degradation arising perturbations, particularly river damming. Despite adoption protected areas setting up, captive breeding release, fishing moratorium, efforts compromised by disproportional attention biodiversity conservation, deficiency, insufficiently designed networks, inefficient or inadequate implementation strategies. achieve objectives it proposed conduct national-scale survey reassess their status, develop systematic planning ecosystems, prioritize strategies development, perform genetic-based releasing concert other implement flexible moratorium different water bodies.

Japanese anchovy (Engraulis japonicus) is a small pelagic fish with commercial and ecological importance. In spite of its importance, in recent years, specific research on the Shandong Peninsula area has been relatively scarce outdated. This study aims to estimate age growth characteristics through year-round seasonal sampling from 2016 2017, utilizing length–frequency otolith microstructure analysis. The higher coastal abundance larger size observed spring summer suggest potential peak spawning period for anchovies dominated by larger-sized individuals. Based analysis, range 0 4 limited presence at dominance age-1 group. length–weight relationship (LWR) equation shows hyper-allometric each season, mean relative condition factor (Kn) 1.025 ± 0.005, indicating good health. Additionally, von Bertalanffy can be expressed as Lt = 154.40 [1 − e−0.604 (t + 0.965)], suggesting medium rate (K 0.604). These findings contribute understanding patterns, emphasizing continuous need monitoring support rational sustainable fisheries management conservation efforts.
