A Scale to Assess Competence in Preventing Emerging Infectious Diseases Among Long‐Term Care Workers

ABSTRACT Aim To develop an instrument for assessing competence in emerging infectious disease prevention among health and care workers long‐term institutions evaluate its psychometric properties. Design A cross‐sectional, descriptive design utilising both qualitative quantitative methods was employed. Methods Based on scale development guidelines, the developed two phases, namely phase testing phase, with staff of as study population their workplaces sampling unit. Results The comprises 27 items across three dimensions: 14 pertaining to professional role performance, 7 addressing workplace resources, 6 focusing soft skills communication collaboration. Content analysis conducted via a focus group discussion; content validity carried out expert reviews; item performed pilot study; construct reliability were ensured factor internal consistency testing, respectively. total variance explained by factors 27‐item 64.8%, demonstrating acceptable Cronbach's α value 0.97. Conclusion This demonstrates excellent validity, making it suitable clinical practice research. In practice, this could also assist managers adjusting policies adapt dynamic situations enhance quality institutions. Nonetheless, further research is warranted refine generalisability.
