Abstract
The
Asteraceae
capitulum,
particularly
a
radiate
capitulum
with
differing
colors
of
ray
and
disc
florets,
resembles
solitary
flower
probably
through
adaption
to
animal
pollination.
A
previous
study
found
that
the
shape‐color
association
in
Chrysanthemum
was
due
co‐option
carotenoid‐cleavage‐dioxygenase
gene
CCD4a
under
regulation
ray‐floret
identity
CYC2g,
member
floral
symmetry
regulators
CYCLOIDEA.
Then
questions
arise:
Is
such
specific
?
Or
did
it
originate
earlier
evolution
allies?
To
answer
these
questions,
we
examined
11
species
representing
four
color
patterns
capitula
tribe
Anthemideae,
which
belongs.
Comparative
examinations
carotenoid
content,
expression
CYC2
‐like
CCD
genes
along
floret
developments,
dual‐luciferase
assays
showed
capitular
were
strongly
correlated
accumulation/degeneration.
In
white‐ray/yellow‐disc
species,
both
CYC2g
ray‐specifically
expressed
can
