Abstract We introduce the AusTraits database - a compilation of measurements plant traits for taxa in Australian flora (hereafter AusTraits). synthesises data on 375 across 29230 from field campaigns, published literature, taxonomic monographs, and individual descriptions. Traits vary scope physiological measures performance (e.g. photosynthetic gas exchange, water-use efficiency) to morphological parameters leaf area, seed mass, height) which link aspects ecological variation. contains curated harmonised individual-, species- genus-level observations coupled to, where available, contextual information site properties. This descriptor provides version 2.1.0 937243 trait-by-taxa combinations. envision as an ongoing collaborative initiative easily archiving sharing trait increase our collective understanding flora.

Summary The threat of rising global temperatures may be especially pronounced for low‐latitude, lowland plant species that have evolved under stable climatic conditions. However, little is known about how these acclimate to elevated temperatures. Here, we leveraged a strong, steep thermal gradient along natural geothermal river assess the ability woody plants in Amazon air We measured leaf traits six common tropical investigate whether individuals species: their thermoregulatory maintain despite higher ambient temperatures; photosynthetic tolerances withstand hotter and acclimation sufficient safety margins (TSMs) across different growth Individuals three acclimated traits, increased with temperature. was generally insufficient constant TSMs. Notwithstanding, health consistent Acclimation Amazonian too weak TSMs at high temperatures, supporting previous findings will increasingly vulnerable stress as rise.

Plants accomplish multiple functions by the interrelationships between functional traits. Clarifying complex relationships plant traits would enable us to better understand how plants employ different strategies adapt environment. Although increasing attention is being paid traits, few studies focused on adaptation aridity through relationship among We established trait networks (PTNs) explore interdependence of sixteen across drylands. Our results revealed significant differences in PTNs life-forms and levels aridity. Trait for woody were weaker, but more modularized than herbs. Woody connected economic whereas herbs structural reduce damage caused drought. Furthermore, correlations tighter with higher edge density semi-arid arid regions, suggesting that resource sharing coordination are advantageous under low drought conditions. Importantly, our demonstrated stem phosphorus concentration (SPC) was a hub correlated other drylands. The demonstrate exhibited adaptations environment adjusting modules alternative strategies. provide new insight into understanding stress based
