Abstract Introduction Multisegment (MS) spectacles are intended to slow myopia progression by modifying images falling on the peripheral retina. Some published optical treatments of these lenses assume normal incidence light at surfaces, but retina usually associated with oblique ray pencils. Here, we model representative point objects produced Hoya MiyoSmart MS spectacle lens when pencils used. Methods Various imaging aspects alone and in combination a suitable accommodating eye for 4D myope were evaluated using Optical Design program Ansys Zemax OpticStudio. Configurations studied included object points vergences zero –4 D, being either axis or field angle about 30°. The effect foveal vision rotating respect that was also considered. Images described terms spot diagrams fast Fourier transform point‐spread functions. Results Symmetry overall quality decreased obliquity pencils, due increased off‐axis aberrations eye. near strongly affected level accommodation: optimal retinal image occurred accommodation brought carrier focus close retina, rather than lenslets. Conclusions Attempts understand why need consider way which through‐focus changes across visual possible effects ocular accommodation.
