ABSTRACT Rationale It has been demonstrated that microplastics and nanoplastics (MNPs) can be found in soil MNPs taken up by plants. In order to conduct a risk assessment for human consumption, it is necessary have an estimate of the mass concentration plastics crops. A new thermal extraction desorption coupled with gas chromatography spectrometry (TED‐GC/MS) method developed analysis polystyrene (PS) pak choi. Methods this study, thermogravimetric analyser (TGA) equipped absorption unit (TAU), was GC system (TDU2), (5%‐phenyl)‐methylpolysiloxane column GC/MSD single quadrupole spectrometer. The systems were connected via MultiPurposeSampler (MPS). Samples pyrolyzed TGA; pyrolysis products trapped on PDMS polymer bar, desorbed TDU, separated analysed GC/MS system. Results purpose study investigate qualitative quantitative detection PS determined limit (LOD) 0.09 μg, quantification (LOQ) 0.28 μg absolute. Plants treated 100 nm particles 19.0 ± 6.7 μg/g DM plants 500 64.1 8.6 found. Conclusions This first use TED‐GC/MS different sizes choi thus provides important basis determination vegetables.
