Abstract Cardiorespiratory fitness is known to protect against cognitive decline in older adults. Specifically, it has been shown that physical activity and are beneficial for executive functions crucial independent living up old age. In this study, 115 individuals aged 80 years underwent a cardiorespiratory assessment using the two-minute step test had their electroencephalogram recorded during colored flanker task order measure function performance. was related quicker responses task. A mediation analysis carried out determine whether these positive effects were mediated through event-related potentials (N1, N2, or P3) motor-related cortical (MRCP). better visual discriminative processing as indicated by larger occipital N1 amplitudes. addition, associated with MRCP amplitudes, which correlate of response generation process. Fitness not found have significant effect on fronto-central N2 parietal P3, thought capture control processes such conflict detection inhibition. Moreover, all reported present three trial conditions (congruent, neutral, incongruent). Thus, results indicate times fitter people motor rather than control.
