Moving from Traits to the Dynamic Process: The Next Steps in Research on Human Resilience

The
current
literature
on
resilience
shows
a
trend
toward
dynamic
process
conceptualization,
moving
away
from
the
previous
trait-approach.
However,
term
"dynamic"
is
increasingly
treated
as
buzzword
and
thereby
oversimplified
in
literature.
aim
of
this
article
to
develop
unified
language
pertaining
process,
so
ensure
progress
field.
First,
we
briefly
introduce
traditional
trait
approach
alongside
implicit
assumption
which
it
built.
Next,
contrast
by
discussing
what
dynamics
entail
how
differs
mainstream
psychological
approaches.
Specifically,
argue
for
mapping
out
change
per
se,
rather
than
identifying
whether
or
not
has
occurred
through
simple
linear
fit
models.
These
processes
typically
emerge
complex
interactions
between
multiple
variables,
result
nonlinear
patterns
like
sudden
gains
losses.
Consequently,
advocate
future
research
avenues
built
repeated
measurements
at
high
frequencies
that
time
series
data
provides
insights
into
unfolds
over
time.
Gaining
such
temporal
also
direct
influence
practical
applications
including
approaches
both
prevention
psychotherapy.
