Abstract Aim Altered mitochondrial function across various tissues is a key determinant of spaceflight‐induced physical deconditioning. In comparison to tissue biopsies, blood cell bioenergetics holds promise as systemic and more readily accessible biomarker, which was evaluated during head‐down tilt bed rest (HDTBR), an established ground‐based analog for physiological changes in humans. More specifically, this study explored the effects HDTBR exercise countermeasure on respiration peripheral mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Methods We subjected 24 healthy participants strict 30‐day protocol. The control group ( n = 12) underwent only, while engaged regular supine cycling followed by veno‐occlusive thigh cuffs post‐exercise 6 h. assessed routine parameters 14 days before rest, respiratory capacity PBMCs via high‐resolution respirometry, citrate synthase activity 2 at day 30 rest. confirmed PBMC composition flow cytometry. Results change maximal oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) amounted 11% increase group, it decreased 10% p 0.04). limitation OXPHOS increased only other states were not affected either intervention. Correlation analysis revealed positive associations between white cells, lymphocytes, basophils with both groups. Conclusion This reveals that has impact function, confirming potential application human spaceflight.

ABSTRACT Purpose Premature birth induces long-term sequelae on the cardiopulmonary system, leading to reduced exercise capacity. However, mechanisms of this functional impairment during incremental remain unclear. Also, a blunted hypoxic ventilatory response was found in preterm adults, suggesting an increased risk for adverse effects hypoxia population. This study aimed investigate oxygen cascade exhaustion both normoxia and hypobaric prematurely born adults with normal lung function their term counterparts. Methods Noninvasive measures gas exchange, cardiac hemodynamics, muscle cerebral oxygenation were continuously performed using metabolic cart, transthoracic impedance, near-infrared spectroscopy, respectively, test at sea level after 3 d high-altitude exposure healthy ( n = 17; gestational age, 29 ± 1 wk; function) 17) adults. Results At peak, power output, uptake, stroke volume indexed body surface area, output lower compared P 0.042, 0.027, 0.030, 0.018, respectively) but not hypoxia, whereas pulmonary ventilation, peripheral saturation, similar between groups.
