Musculoskeletal pain is common in the general pediatric population and a challenge to youth, their parents, society. The majority of children experiencing musculoskeletal will recover; however, small subgroup youth develops chronic pain. There limited understanding factors that affect transition from acute youth. This review introduces sleep deficiency transition, exploring potential mediational or mechanistic role pathways this process, including interaction with sensory, psychological, social components highlighting new avenues for treatment. Biological mechanisms include increased production inflammatory mediators effect on hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis dopaminergic signaling. Psychological emotional-affective behavioral pain, negative impact daily activities coping strategies reward system, catastrophizing, fear pain-related anxiety, hypervigilance, isolation. Abstract Opioid craving and relapse vulnerability is associated with severe persistent sleep circadian rhythm disruptions.
