Self-plagiarism: A retrospective study of its prevalence and patterns across scientific disciplines DOI Creative Commons

This study explores the incidence and nature of self-plagiarism across various disciplines. Using Retraction Watch data, we analyze retraction times, authorship patterns, disciplinary differences, geographical origin manuscripts retracted due to duplications image, complete article or parts text. We find that image entire are primary causes self-plagiarism-related retractions. Duplication is most prevalent in social sciences business. In biomedical fields, duplication main issue, with longest median time 4 years. comparison, for all cases 3.2 years, plagiarism-related retractions - 1.7 more authors on self-plagiarized than plagiarized manuscripts. Author counts also higher when duplicated material data involves text article. Our comprehensive analysis not only highlights critical issues but offers insights developing stronger policies uphold academic integrity.
