Abstract Aims Aging is associated with declines in muscle strength and physical function, sleep plays a crucial role maintaining musculoskeletal health. This cohort study, based on the China Health Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), aims to explore relationship between characteristics performance middle-aged elderly individuals. Methods A total of 2,998 participants from CHARLS were included, baseline data 2011 survey follow-up 2015 survey. Nighttime napping patterns assessed, changes duration over time categorized. Physical functioning was assessed through handgrip strength, chair stand test, walking appendicular skeletal mass, SPPB scores. Multiple linear regression restricted cubic spline models employed analyze effects Results After adjusting for all confounding factors, multifactor liner indicated that durations exceeding 90 min reduced grip ( β = -0.39, 95% CI: -1.43, -0.01, P < 0.05) longer test times 0.59, 0.18, 0.99, 0.01). The clear U-shaped nap (non-linear 0.05), whereas no such observed test. In subgroup analyses addressing significant it found older than 65 years, males, those low levels daily activity exhibited greater sensitivity function. joint analysis showed compared individuals less 6 h nighttime napping, 6–8 30–90 0.63, 0.06, 1.20, 0.05). Additionally, naps 1.44, 0.68, 2.21, Conclusions Both insufficient excessive at linked diminished performance. For adults, approximately 50 may be potentially optimal strength. These findings highlight importance proper management, particularly men years old levels, preserving function reducing risk mobility decline.

Sleep disorders and physical dysfunction are prevalent in the elderly, particularly among hospitalized individuals, yet relationship between two remains unclear. Given China's rapidly aging population, understanding how sleep quality relates to function is crucial for informing healthcare practices. This study aims analyze indicators older patients admitted internal wards. In this cross-sectional study, geriatric department were included. was assessed with 8 items Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS-8). Physical evaluated from 3 domains: mobility by Short Performance Battery (SPPB) gait speed, muscle strength grip chair rises test, balance performance Timed Up-and-Go test (TUGT). Logistic regression applied statistical analyses, adjusting confounders. A total of 545 old (≥ 60 years) Those poor (AIS-8 ≥ 6) exhibited a higher likelihood dysfunction, odds ratio (95% confidence interval) 1.892 (1.037-3.453) low 1.810 (1.110-2.952) strength, 2.491 (1.496-4.147) impaired TUGT. components, maintenance daytime linked indicators. Stratified age, associated incidence TUGT participants 75 years old. But association wasn't seen < years. gender, significant female population observed but not male population. Poor reduced function, especially advancing ageand women. Targeted interventions enhance elderly may contribute maintaining improve life such patients. Not applicable.

Background This study aims to explore the relationship between sleep duration and Activity of Daily Living (ADL) disability among older adults in China. ADL severely impacts quality life is associated with various physical mental health issues. With aging population China, burden increasing. Methods Data were sourced from 2018 national follow-up Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS), including 9,572 participants aged 65 above. Sleep was assessed via self-reported questionnaire categorized into short (<7 h), medium (7–8 long (≥9 h). evaluated through Basic Activities (BADL) Instrumental (IADL). Logistic regression models used analyze disability, subgroup analyses conducted differences by gender activity. Results The found a significant non-linear disability. Compared 7–8 h, those over 9 h had significantly higher risk BADL IADL (OR = 1.36, OR 1.35). Subgroup indicated that this existed different genders, age, activity levels. Conclusion For maintaining may be an effective strategy for preventing Both excessively are increased population.

Objectives This study explored the association between Frailty Index (FI) and low back pain (LBP) in middle-aged older Chinese adults. We hypothesised that a higher FI correlates with increased LBP prevalence. Design Cross-sectional analysis. Setting The used data from China Health Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) across various regions of China. Participants analysis included 6375 participants aged 45 above complete CHARLS for 2011, 2013 2015. excluded individuals under 45, those incomplete data, fewer than 30 health deficit items missing covariate data. Outcome measures constructed an consisting 35 deficits. Logistic multivariable regression examined relationship LBP, using threshold to identify inflection points. Sensitivity analyses were performed ensure robustness findings. Results Of participants, 27.2% reported LBP. A U-shaped was observed highest quartile (Q4, ≥0.23) showing more twofold risk (OR=2.90, 95% CI: 2.45–3.42, p<0.001). Stratified showed significant 60, particularly lowest (OR=1.43, 1.14 1.79). upheld primary results. Conclusions findings suggest complex frailty highlighting need early screening tailored interventions manage this demographic. Further research is necessary understand mechanisms validate through longitudinal studies.
