The Nezzazatoidea (“nezzazatoids” herein) is a superfamily of “larger” benthic foraminifera (LBF) that are common in the Cretaceous (especially mid-Cretaceous) neritic carbonate successions Neotethys. They encountered suitable rocks broad belt centred around Central America, Mediterranean region, Middle East, and Himalayas. To improve their stratigraphic utility, identities distribution 15 species critically reviewed based on published records, these taxa having at least possible occurrences Cenomanian strata. It shown misidentifications have erroneously overextended ranges some taxa. However, there indeed long ranges, suggesting nezzazatoids form part group environmentally tolerant LBF were able to recover from palaeoceanographic events such as widespread anoxia or sea-level change. Some short within mark them out potential be used, alongside other groups, development biozonation/bioevent scheme for LBF. As with almost all mid-Cretaceous LBF, work taxonomy/identity an ongoing task requiring access pristine material, including topotypes.
