Gaze input offers strong potential for creating intuitive and engaging user interfaces, but remains constrained by inherent limitations in accuracy precision. Although extensive research has explored gaze-based interaction over the past three decades, a systematic framework that fully captures diversity of gaze techniques is still lacking. To address this gap, we present novel two-dimensional taxonomy classifies interactions (1) type , distinguishing between gaze-only gaze-assisted modalities, (2) target differentiating those requiring absolute coordinates thus higher accuracy, using relative coordinates, which tolerate lower accuracy. Our explicitly required interface constraints each technique, providing clearer guidance designers interfaces. We apply to review classify 125 studies active on 2D displays. The findings highlight promising identify opportunities advance design.
