Sonicated emulsive water microdroplets (SEWMs) accelerate and enable a variety of catalyst-free chemical transformations. However, significant unanswered questions remain regarding the intermediates they form their possible redox origin. In this study, we identified dissolved O2 as primary originator reactive oxygen species (ROS) such OH• H2O2. We uncovered role by using combination microelectrochemical methods to detect H2O2, isotopic identify source electron spin resonance DMPO trap radicals OH•. Notably, found that H2O2 production is correlated with content via reduction pathway enabled sufficiently large reducing power can additionally generate H2 even perform Pb electroless deposition on Au Cu metal substrates. Building our findings, continuous bubbling SEWMs showed accumulation up ∼88 mM in aqueous phase within 1 h sonication, demonstrating scale-up promise method. This insight paves way for improving kinetics, yield, selectivity, positioning these attractive microreactors alternatives traditional electrolyzers.
