Background Reduced level of serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in acute stroke patients is associated with poor outcomes. We aimed to identify the role BDNF as a predictor for post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI). Methods This was prospective study. recruited ischemic Dr. Sardjito General Hospital Yogyakarta, Indonesia followed them up 90 days (3 months). Serum collected at day 5 and 30 onset measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) used measure function follow up. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve conducted cut-off point level. Factors independently PSCI were analyzed using stepwise regression. Results Among 89 recruited, 60 (67.41%) developed PSCI. The mean age non-PSCI 62.7 ± 9.5 57.5 8.7, respectively (p = 0.01). Patients dyslipidemia less likely develop (OR 0.10, 95%CI 0.02-0.51, p < 0.05). In addition, 5-serum 23.29 ng/mL five times more compared their counterparts 5.15, 1.26-21.09, Conclusions patients, those <23.29 had higher risk developing study suggests that could be PSCI, allowing earlier detection better preventive strategies.

After an ischemic stroke, various harmful mechanisms contribute to tissue damage, including the inflammatory response. The increase in pro-inflammatory cytokines has been related greater damage neural and promotion of neurological alterations, cognitive impairment. Recent research shown that use prebiotics and/or probiotics counteracts inflammation improves function through production growth factors, such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), by reducing molecules. Therefore, this study, effect symbiotic inulin
