Artificial Intelligence holds vast potential in academia, yet concerns arise regarding its usage. This study examines students' perceptions and intentions to use ChatGPT through the signalling elaboration likelihood model, which offers valuable insights into transmission procession of information. Two adoption approaches are considered: peripheral route involves utilization simple cues requiring less cognitive effort, such as credibility, content quality, critical mass, while central requires a person critically evaluate information rooted perceived usefulness technical advantages. Critical reasoning digital efficacy examined moderating variables. Using convenience sampling, data from 694 respondents collected via WeChat www.wjx.cn China. Structural Equation Modeling reveals significant positive impact usefulness, advantages, mass on student for academic performance. The findings inform policymakers educators AI tool integration higher education, stressing importance understanding intentions.
