For social creatures like humans, loneliness-which is characterized by a perceived lack of meaningful relationships-can result in detrimental health outcomes, especially when experienced over an extended period time. One potential way to pursue rewarding connections could be conformity, the tendency align one's behavior and opinions those others. In this perspective article, we give broad overview common distinct neural mechanisms underlying loneliness involvement oxytocinergic system therein. Additionally, consider how can understood within predictive processing framework. Specifically, negative expectations related altered representations self others medial prefrontal cortex, whereas diminished bottom-up signals from insula may contribute reduced precision perception environment. This negatively skewed internal model perpetuate lead chronicity While acute isolation drive people toward reconnection increased chronic distrust avoidance, eventually resulting nonconformity. We suggest different mediating moderating factors that warrant further investigation future research.

Abstract Introduction Loneliness poses a significant health problem and existing psychological interventions have shown only limited positive effects on loneliness. Based preliminary evidence for impaired oxytocin signaling in trait-like loneliness, the current proof-of-concept study used randomized, double-blind, placebo- controlled design to probe intranasal (OT) as an adjunct short-term modular-based group intervention individuals suffering from high loneliness (HL, UCLA scale ≥ 55). Methods Seventy-eight healthy HL adults (56 women) received five weekly psychotherapy sessions targeting cognitive biases participants OT or placebo before sessions. Primary outcomes were trait- like measured at baseline, after intervention, again two follow-up time points (three weeks three months), and, assessed each session, state (visual analog scale), perceived stress (Perceived Stress Scale, PSS-10), quality of life (World Health Organization Five Well-Being Index, WHO-5), therapeutic relationship (Group Questionnaire, GQ-D). Results The was associated with significantly reduced improved across treatment groups, which still evident 3-month follow-up. had no effect life, stress. However, compared placebo, facilitated decrease within bonding between members. Conclusion Despite did not augment this effect. Further studies are needed determine optimal designs translate observed acute into long- term benefits.

Trauma can shape the way an individual experiences world and interacts with other people. Touch is a key component of social interactions, but surprisingly little known how trauma exposure influences processing touch. In this review, we examine possible neurobiological pathways through which influence touch lead to aversion avoidance in trauma-exposed individuals. Emerging evidence indicates that may affect sensory thresholds by modulating activity primary cortex posterior insula. Disturbances multisensory integration oxytocin reactivity combined diminished reward-related anxiolytic responses induce bias towards negative appraisal contexts. Furthermore, hippocampus deactivation during reflect dissociative state. These changes depend not only on type severity also features We hypothesise disrupted impair interactions confer elevated risk for future stress-related disorders.

Abstract Recent studies using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging have shown that loneliness is associated with altered blood oxygenation in several brain regions. However, the relationship between and changes neuronal rhythm activity remains unclear. To evaluate rhythm, we conducted an exploratory electroencephalogram (EEG) study of loneliness. We recorded EEG signals from 139 participants (94 women; mean age = 19.96 years) analyzed power spectrum density (PSD) connectivity (FC) both electrode source spaces. The PSD analysis revealed significant correlations scores decreased beta-band powers, which may indicate negative emotion, attention, reward, and/or sensorimotor processing. FC a trend alpha-band individuals’ scores. These findings provide new insights into neural basis loneliness, will facilitate development neurobiologically informed interventions for

Background/Aim This study aimed to examine the relationship between loneliness and bedtime procrastination in young adults Germany, offering critical insights into development maintenance of both conditions. Specifically, it sought test a new model that connects these two psychological constructs. Materials Methods A quantitative online survey was conducted with 500 (Mage = 23.3, 83.6% female). Loneliness assessed using UCLA Scale, while measured Bedtime Procrastination Scale. Results The results show significant positive correlation adults. Sleep quality also found significantly correlate positively as well procrastination. Conclusion findings provide crucial framework for understanding constructs Implications possible future interventions are discussed.
