The purpose of this special issue is to critically examine the constructivist moorings contemporary developmental theory and practice, including practice research methods. This introduction intended foreshadow papers presented here by charting terrain several conceptual commitments that we consider paradigmatic cornerstones approaches. Although constructivism has deep roots across disciplines in sciences humanities, generating a wealth scholarship focused on its various assumptions theoretical principles, target three: active subject, normativity, historicity. These principles are theoretically axiomatic approaches, strongly interconnected, highly relevant some most pressing debates challenges affecting science society, not least because they question fundamental notions often take for granted – as vital meanings truth, fact, objectivity. After presenting primer meaning significance these three review their status critical signposts work scholars contributing issue.

The first gestures that children produce intentionally to communicate with others, make sense of the world around them, and control their behavior are ostensive showing giving; these also parents teachers use regulate in months life. Ostensive proximal which child's hand is occupied by an object. In this sense, objects have a role shaping children's communicative acts: They referents about means they share references others. Despite relevance development, literature review highlights there been few studies investigating three years life, while study distal gestures, especially pointing has prevailed. Some authors relate relative absence methodological issues hinder identification. Others question nature as "true gestures" because involve contact therefore can be doubt underlying intentionality. Increasing evidence shown fulfill early self-regulatory functions from end year These very similar ones later observed more complex such symbolic gestures. This similarity provides clear idea progression gesture development. Based on ideas, article two main purposes: describe reaffirm important part explore hypothesis not only precede but one pointing's precursors, providing clues understanding intentional communication's origin.

Abstract Objective The study investigates how intentional actions of a teacher, through the use objects by 2- to 3-year-old children in educational settings, promoting emergence indicators related executive functions. Method Videos situations conducted teacher with 12 public school were analyzed. analysis focused on semi-structured task carried out after shared reading children’s book, aiming observe teacher’s interventions, uses objects, and actions. Results results indicate that interventions appeared restrict semiotic dynamics involving books, little anticipation expected outcomes at key moments activity. These limited promotion functions during interactions. However, it was observed some able regulate their exert level control over task. Conclusion It is concluded that, although mediation could have promoted greater challenges, demonstrated self-regulation. This suggests action handling can, extent, foster development control, even minimally directed interventions. highlights need for more planned pedagogical practices impact processes functioning from early years Early Childhood Education.

Abstract Communication is commonly viewed as connecting people through conscious symbolic processes. Infants have an immature communication toolbox, raising the question of how they form a sense connectedness. In this article, we propose framework for infants' communication, emphasizing subtle unconscious behaviors and autonomic contingent signals that convey drives, emotions, connection, facilitating formation primal social bonds. Our developmental model emphasizes importance diverse modes their interplay in interactions during infancy. The leverages three levels communication—autonomic, behavioral, symbolic—and different maturational pathways. Initially, relies on responses dynamic behavioral repertoire, which evolve first year life, supporting emergence communication. This extended highlights role proactive communicating agents allows tracing communicative cascades back to origins.
