Abstract Variations in skin structures can possibly reflect local adaptation to distinct environmental factors. As the primary interface with surrounding environment, amphibian undergoes phenotypic innovations that play a key role protection, water absorption, and respiration. However, effects of factors on have been examined only limited number species. Here, we conducted comparative analysis 102 Chinese anuran species across varying geographical distributions habitat types. Our results revealed total volume granular glands capillary density dorsal significantly increased increasing latitude. We also found thickness calcified layers both ventral was positively correlated annual temperature negatively humidity. Additionally, terrestrial exhibited largest gland, whereas arboreal had smallest one. Likewise, mucous gland observed aquatic species, while These highlighted importance understanding relationship between phenotypes variables thus providing conservation strategies based evolutionary adaptations anurans. study contribute broader knowledge biology anurans by demonstrating how specific traits are linked survival fitness various ecological contexts.
