preregistered,
but
nobody
checks
it
during
review,
does
mean
anything?
The
purpose
of
this
preregistered
was
to
better
understand
how
editors
and
reviewers
engage
with
preregistration
plans
the
review
process.

in

publishing

reviews

article,

coded
for
whether
or
mentioned
preregistration,
accessed
made
specific
mention

between
reporting
paper.
Analyses

mention/access/compare;

overall,
many
editors/reviewers
689).
In
43%

only

Abstract
Human
interaction
with
the
living
world,
in
science
and
beyond,
always
involves
classification.
While
it
has
been
a
long-standing
scientific
goal
to
produce
single
all-purpose
taxonomy
of
life
cater
for
this
need,
classificatory
practice
is
often
subject
confusion
disagreement,
many
philosophers
have
advocated
forms
pluralism.
This
entails
that
multiple
classifications
should
be
allowed
coexist,
whichever
classification
best,
context-dependent.

Abstract
When
producing
species
classifications,
taxonomists
are
often
confronted
with
gray-area
cases.
For
example,
because
of
incipient
or
shallow
divergence,
it
can
be
scientifically
valid
both
to
split
groups
organisms
into
separate
and
lump
them
together
one
species.
It
has
been
claimed
that,
in
such
cases,
the
ranking
decision
is,
part,
subjective
may
differ
between
differences
their
conceptions
even
conservation
values.
In
present
article,
we
use
a
vignette
study
empirically
test
this
claim
explore
drivers
taxonomic
decision-making

fictional
scenarios,
