Background
Environmental
changes
can
be
positive
in
mental
illness.
Systematic,
planned
and
guided
environmental
change
all
its
aspects
is
called
nidotherapy.
It
has
shown
some
benefit
but
not
been
extended
to
whole
communities.
Aims
A
cluster-randomised
step-wedge
trial
six
village
communities
Nottinghamshire,
England,
covering
an
adult
population
of
400.
Method
Adults
villages
will
offered
a
full
personal
assessment
followed
by
agreed
different
3-month
periods
over
the
course
1
year.
All
have
populations
between
51
100
residents
are
similar
demographically.
Assessments
health,
personality
status,
social
function,
quality
life
environment
satisfaction
made.
After
initial
baseline
period
3
months,
two
randomised
nidotherapy
for
further
at
6
months
last
9
months.
Results
The
primary
outcome
function;
secondary
outcomes
include
health-related
life,
anxiety
depressive
symptoms,
costs
satisfaction.
Adverse
events
also
recorded.

multimodal
statistical
approach
