Health lifestyles are a well-theorized mechanism perpetuating health and social inequalities, but empirical research has not yet documented crucial aspects: (1) lifestyles’ collective nature or content beyond behaviors (2) how people choose among available in their contexts. We conducted interviews, observations, focus groups with families two middle- to upper-middle-class communities. Contemporary class-privileged parenting involves constructing an individualized lifestyle reliant on expansive understanding of composed parents’ identities narratives, children’s identity expressions, community norms. Geographical residence predicts health and well-being. Population health, life expectancy, mortality are partially the outcome of characteristics one’s social policy context. Yet how do such links occur? We propose a novel approach to test the fundamental cause theory (FCT) by analyzing association between socioeconomic status (SES), as measured order titles “brothers” and “padres,” mortality in 2,421 German Catholic monks born 1840 1959.
