Abstract Education is viewed as a critical keystone in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, for (ESD) meant to enable everyone contribute sustainable development (SDG 4.7). This target monitored using global indicator 4.7.1 – mainstreaming of ESD policies, curricula, training educators and student assessment. Here, we offer conceptual methodological framework assessments SDG (input‐level) that addresses both quality depth implementation speed change. The approach combines document analysis with external expert evaluation applied 10‐year data (>11,000 documents) from all formal areas education Germany (early childhood education, school vocational training, higher education). Currently, mostly implemented an “add‐on” educational system, sub‐indicators ranging “isolated mentioning” related concepts “partial integration”. Across most sub‐indicator was evaluated deficient. With regard change, it found dynamic, having been increasing. proposed can increase validity, reliability, comparability country reporting scientific 4.7.1. We argue independent integrative monitoring across input, process, output outcome complement self‐reporting support evidence‐informed policymaking on sustainability education.

This mixed-method study aimed to investigate the efficacy of an intervention unit that integrates perspectives from Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) foster plant awareness, within context botanical lessons trainee science teachers. Third-year undergraduate students (n = 91) studying become lower secondary school (grade 7–9) teachers a public university in East Java, Indonesia, participated this study. Data were collected through self-reported questionnaire, reflective journal entries, and focus group interviews. The findings revealed statistically significant increase participants’ attention attitude towards plants, relative interest self-efficacy teaching plant-related topics. triangulation analysis results journals interviews demonstrated transformative learning, experiences, perceptions, learning evolved throughout unit, leading their more comprehensive understanding issues connection broader sustainability concerns. These imply integration ESD into education positively affects awareness. Future research could further long-term impact integrating on teacher training programs.

There is an increasing interest and effort in reorienting university curricula to address sustainability preparing teachers get involved embedding the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) teaching enabled by Information Communication Technologies (ICTs). Evidence shows that this often prevented various barriers at three levels: teacher- level barriers, school-level system-level barriers. In study, attempt was geared towards identifying constituencies of these levels examining extent which they predict teachers’ motivation embed SDGs school subject areas, including arts-based education. A survey 1253 Malaysia revealed explain 83% variance. By identifying, addressing, investigating higher education institutions—and especially teacher education—could be better informed ICT-enabled Education for Sustainability (ICTeEfS). One discussion in the context of education for sustainable development centres on importance cognitive as well affective processes promoting pro-environmental behaviour. In our study, we investigate how affordances immersive Virtual Reality (iVR) such virtual embodiment a tree might provide new opportunities to achieve this goal. The aim study was twofold: Firstly, investigated whether multisensory enhancement iVR has an additional, supporting effect mechanisms that are vital fostering nature connectedness and behaviour compared non-enhanced iVR. Secondly, examined relationships between mediating variables explain underlying can be promoted through experimental design (N = 82), tested effects embodying considered behaviour: a) embodiment, b) perspective-taking, c) reflection relationship oneself nature, d) nature. According self-reported measures, participants developed feeling were able change their perspective by stepping into tree's point view. Purpose Halfway into the United Nations (UN) sustainable development goals (SDGs) timeline, we deemed fruitful an injunction current teacher education (TE) practices at higher educational institutes (HEIs). The scoping literature review used all known English nomenclature interrelating to environment, sustainability, development, and as regards TE. We explicated modelled data through timelines favourable UN initiatives within a spatiotemporal metric. Thematic research topics methodologies strictly pertaining TE were rigorously researched delineated. Our study aims elucidate grander picture of trends-as-patterns environmental sustainability in (ESE-TE) HEI potential contributions come. Design/methodology/approach adopts investigative tool probe trends on ESE-TE academic with respect thematic midway SDGs.
