Abstract
Background
The
global
nursing
shortage
has
particularly
severe
consequences
in
resource-constrained
countries
like
Nepal,
where
a
significant
outflow
of
healthcare
professionals
exacerbates
the
crisis.
While
impact
on
patient
care,
workforce
dynamics,
and
organizational
challenges
within
settings
have
been
extensively
researched,
profound
implications
this
crisis
for
education
remain
underexplored.
This
qualitative
study
sheds
light
often-unseen
undergraduate
students’
clinical
education.
Methods
Data
were
collected
from
three
focus
group
discussions
involving
eighteen
final-year
students
two
tertiary
institutions.

2024.
Thematic
analysis
was
employed
to
identify
interpret
key
themes.
Results
Four
overarching
themes
emerged:
(1)
Compromised
Learning,
highlighting
detrimental
skill
acquisition
student
preparedness;

Field,
revealing
emotional
toll
isolation,
describing
themselves
as
“ghosts,
silently
observing
sidelines”;
(3)
Forging
Ahead,
showcasing
unintended
resilience
resourcefulness
seeking
alternative
knowledge
sources;
(4)
Digital
Mentors,
spotlighting
innovative
use
Artificial
Intelligence
(AI)
supplementary
learning
tool
overburdened
settings.
Conclusion
Nepal
created
challenging
often
isolating
environment
