In this article, cultural cisgenderism is adopted to investigate Equality DanceSport, a sporting context emerging out of an LGBT+ community. 1 The study questions the extent which DanceSport enforces regulations and practices promote trans-inclusivity. Drawing on constructivist grounded theory approach, I conducted autoethnography 35 semi-structured interviews with dancers representing diverse genders sexualities. examined discourses shaping recent revision competition rules in United Kingdom experiences transgender competitive arena. Findings suggest that despite challenging some cis heteronormative mainstream spaces, essentialist notions sex gender continue feed into DanceSport's rules. These are hinged debates around fairness inclusivity inform constitution binary category Transgender face several challenges within system, tending cope through identity compromise. Such strategy contributes erasure invisibility. Overall, paper provides critical understanding trans-inclusivity space Kingdom. It highlights complexity achieving calls for interrogation does not conflate LGB T when investigating contexts. concludes proposal radical regulatory policy changes question epistemological understandings celebrate other values sports de-emphasise focus winning.
