The article focuses on the problem of designing, constructing, measuring and interpreting indices for assessing digital transformation manufacturing companies. We analyse compositional features, advantages limitations three indices, which are a fairly focused comparing industrial sectors (or at least extended groups industries) according to their level or maturity: Industrial Digitalisation Index MGI McKinsey, Smart Industry Readiness (SIRI) World Economic Forum, Economy Social Sectors by Higher School Economics. main thesis is need develop unified, continuous relevant index companies, taking into account all positive experiences in conceptual methodological development digitalisation assessment that research analysis teams have managed so far. At same time, author points out avoid retrospective construction based lagging statistical data. It seems very important take introduce strategic vector when not enough simply aggregate indicators adoption identify certain sub-indices as markers transformation. From point view, such an approach can be perfectly correct, reliable, verifiable.Questions arise about productive potential clustered technologies context evolving business models, particularly manufacturing. As part constructing any methods dynamics maturity, digitalisation, transformation, it better face inevitable uncertainty some frontier attempt foresee intersections technological factors future niches than try generalise trajectory already traversed with more logic only verified tested parts layers technologies. With this approach, companies projective instrumental functions, they serve, sense, roadmap. They make possible improve vision different sectors, well stakeholders, associations public authorities (especially those charge policy), view achieving later stages maturity.
